What Is The Florida Bar Exam?

The Florida Bar Exam tests the legal knowledge of applicants to the Florida Bar and ensures that approved candidates to the bar have an acceptable understanding of federal and Florida laws. What Does The Florida Bar Exam Consist Of?

The Florida Bar examination includes:

  1. The General Bar Exam 
    1. Part A Florida-Prepared Examination (FPE)
    2. Part B Multistate Bar Examination (MBE)
  2. Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE)

The General Bar Examination (Parts A and B) are given in four sections over two days. The Florida-prepared Exam (Part A)  is given on day one. In the morning, you will have to answer essay questions and three hours are allotted to do that. In the afternoon, you will answer 100 multiple choice questions with three hours allotted again. 

The Multistate Bar Exam (Part B) is given on day two and is made up of 200 multiple choice questions divided in half between the morning and afternoon sessions. 

You can chose to take both Part A and B together or separately (i.e. Part A in February, Part B in July).

The MPRE is a 60 question multiple choice test that is administered over two hours. It tests your understanding of the standards of professional conduct for attorneys.It can be taken before law school graduation, but the FPE and the MBE can only be completed after all requirements for law school graduation are met.Law students typically take the MPRE in their second or third year of law school.

The Florida Bar Exam is difficult for a majority of people. The latest past rate of first-time test takers was 54.7%. The overall pass rate was only 39%.
