In order for a lawyer to be licensed to practice law in Florida they must pass the Bar exam and be admitted to The Florida Bar, by the Florida Supreme Court via the Florida Board of Bar Examiners. If an attorney wants proof of their admittance and their good standing with The Florida Bar, they can acquire a Florida Bar Certificate of Good Standing.

What Is a Florida Bar Certificate Of Good Standing?

A Florida Bar Certificate of Good Standing is provided by The Florida Bar to members that have been admitted to The Bar and are in good standing with The Bar as well. This certificate is physical proof of membership and the good standing status of a licensed Florida lawyer with The Florida Bar.

What Are The Requirements Necessary To Receive A Certificate Of Good Standing From The Florida Bar?

In order to receive a Certificate of Good Standing from The Florida Bar, you must be a member of the Florida Bar that has paid fees to renew their annual membership for the current year. A bar member in good standing can be active or inactive.

Attorneys Who Are Not Considered In Good Standing With The Florida Bar:

  • Attorneys who have retired from the practice of law 
  • Attorneys that have resigned
  • Attorneys who have had their law privileges revoked
  • Attorneys who have been disbarred from The Florida Bar
  • Attorneys who are considered delinquent
  • Attorneys that have been suspended
  • Attorneys that are Inactive due to incapacity

What Is An Active Member In Good Standing With The Florida Bar?

Active members in good standing with The Florida Bar are licensed Florida attorneys that have paid the current year’s membership fees. In order to be considered active, a lawyer cannot be retired, disbarred, revoked, suspended, delinquent, or have resigned. Inactive status does not allow for the further practice of law in the state, but can allow for continued good standing with The Florida Bar.  

How Do I Get A Certificate Of Good Standing In Florida As An Attorney?

In order to be considered in good standing with The Florida Bar, a licensed Florida attorney must be current with membership fees and must be an active practicing attorney or inactive in certain approved cases. A United States Middle District Florida Lawyer can request a Certificate of Good Standing electronically from the Case Management/Electronic Case Files system. Your Florida Bar Certificate of Good Standing will be emailed to you. You can also request an original copy with an embedded seal be mailed to you as well. Florida attorneys can also go directly to The Florida Bar website to print out a copy of their certificate of good standing from the member portal.
